“Go Rest High”
(Excerpt from “Voices of America’s
Prisoners”, broadcast Tuesday, February 19, 2008)
I would like
to draw a picture of what is going on today, world wide. My
reason for doing so is to stress again. We had better identify
with the drug addict, the thief, even the murderer, the lowly, for
Christ Himself is meek and lowly of heart and we must learn of Him if
we are to have answers to the mess the world is in.
Several of the
inmates wrote and said they were reading the Book of Job and could
identify with his justifying his sin, with his trying to save his life,
and his final surrender after 32 chapters of arguing with the
messengers. And then his restoration.
And this
is what I tell them. Job was a pastor. He was a righteous
man. He was not a drug addict, a murderer, a thief.
And yet he was in the same boat we all are in. He either changed
with God's dealings or he perished. God is closer to all of us
than we think. He planted a seed inside of us like He has done to
the acorn. When the fullness of time comes, that seed must bring
forth. Our life has always belonged to God. We, in our evil
imaginations thought we owned ourselves and could make it in this place
called the grave without Him. So it is time to “go rest high on
that mountain” friend, your work in hell is done.
