About YLI Silk Ribbon
High
quality Silk Ribbons by YLI are one of Piecemakers favorites for hand
and machine embroidery, doll dressing, decorative serging, smocking,
quilting, clothing embellishment and all other embellishment, yet the
uses of pure silk ribbon are innumerable. YLI 100% silk ribbon is made
in Japan by Kanagawa. This Japanese company makes some of the best silk
ribbon in the business. It has been around for many years and is is
recognized for it's superior quality and color consistency. There is a
big difference in the feel and stitchability of YLI ribbon. It is also
colorfast and can be dry-cleaned or hand washed.YLI makes about 185
colors of silk ribbon, but not all colors come in all sizes. We try to
have all of the 2mm, 4mm , and 7mm silk ribbons at all times.
YLI Ribbon is 100% pure filament silk which means it is the highest
quality you can buy. Synthetic or spun silk ribbon products simply can
not measure up to the quality YLI Silk Ribbon offers. When putting your
hard work into your favorite quilting, crafting, or sewing project,
there really is no substitute for the quality YLI Silk Ribbons provide.
Piecemakers offers 3 sizes or widths of YLI Ribbon by the yard. The
sizes/widths of YLI Silk Ribbons that Piecemakers offers are the 2mm,
4mm, and 7mm (YLI Silk Ribbons are sold in metric widths, with a 2mm
silk ribbon equalling approximately 1/16" wide, 4mm equalling
approximately 1/8" wide, and the 7mm equalling approximately 1/4" wide).Try mixing YLI Silk Ribbons with the Hanah Silk Hand Dyed Ribbons and/or the Thread Gatherers Silk Ribbon, or wherever your imagination takes you!For theYLI Silk Ribbon By The Yard, we recommend the following high quality Piecemakers sewing needles: Piecemakers Chenille Needles Piecemakers Tapestry Needles
Most people use tapestry (blunt end for weaving stitches) or chenille (sharp for getting through denser fabrics).Silk
is best on heirlooms because it has historically been a sign of wealth
and luxury. Silk comes from the silkworm. It will keep for centuries,
if properly cared for, and does well behind glass frames. On items that will be washed, it's best to pre-wash silk ribbon by letting it soak in a bowl of water in case the dyes bleed.
