On July 26, 2010, we celebrated
Marie's 89th birthday. In her words, "I hate birthday parties - I made it clear, I hate parties. 'Do not,' I said, 'do not have a party for me.' - but this family here loves to surprise me. So it is 5:30 a.m. and I am walking into the dining area through the back door of our [store] kitchen and it is loaded with friends, the music coming from what appeared to be heaven. They were playing the old song, “Marie, the dawn is breaking”. Well, my natural family was there and also my family, the Piecemakers. The chorus all decked out in their black robes sang so sweetly everyone was crying. The band played stuff from The Beatles to “It Came Out of the Sky”. "There was an awesome presence of God, the joy of the Lord filling the air. Laughter and tears flowed like a river - music, food and gifts. The music of the band and choir had all the listeners in tears." Click here to see the birthday greetings video that Marie's granddaughter, Shastin, made for her. Below are pictures from the morning in order of the events. Click on any picture to enlarge. |

The chorus joins
in with an upbeat version of "Shall We Gather at the River" and more,
and for the finale Mike's guitar playing is featured in Eric Clapton's
"Presence of the Lord". |
The "encore" is Creedence
Clearwater's "It Came Out of the Sky" - Marie starts dancing. |
