Will America Repent and Become a Unified Community?

    Hello, dear e-mail friends,

We, the people on planet Earth are, like it or not, one big community under one roof. Are we a community living in harmony? Or are we a dog eat dog community that has no answer to our predicament?

If the Los Angeles police, supposedly peace officers, can take it upon themselves to beat a man which could lead to his death; if we, a democratic Christian nation, can lynch black people and shun the underdog; if we, under the guise of "helping a nation" can go into it and bomb that part of our community into submission; if we have become so narcissistic that we live only to satisfy an image; if our morals have become so depraved, Sodom and Gomorrah looks clean; we are, indeed in dire need of help from someone, somewhere beyond our puny selves. Are there better methods we can use to make this community one of peace, thereby treating others as we would want to be treated? Or ---

Will an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, greed and lack of compassion continue to be our way of life??

Surely buried deep within each human being is that spark of a compassionate God waiting to be ignited by a few who will go before them and set the example that will kindle and light the way into a better community in which to live. As the old song goes, "It only takes a spark to start a fire burning."

There are small groups within the community who are trying "new" methods. Like the woman who forgave the two teenagers for murdering, raping and disfiguring the face of her daughter. When asked what the last words of the dying girl were she answered, "I forgive you for what you have done." One of the teenagers now is out of jail and living a normal life with the help of the girl's mother. His broken heart of repentance softened his stony heart and gave him a conscience.

Just what if something would happen in the conscience of man to make the pain we inflict on others come back on us? Then the police will not be so ready to abuse the ones they serve; we will not think it is our job to kill part of our community thereby threatening them into submission.

Could we be in the fullness of time when we all become a community united in such a way so as to feel the pain we inflict upon another?? If we are indeed made into the image and likeness of a compassionate God, this is not an impossibility. First we need some deep repentance and inner ethnic cleansing.

    Sincerely,

    Marie
